INSIDE THE VENICE BIENNALE

Every two years, the already-bustling paths lining the Venetian canals are filled with the colors of art, artists and art lovers converging on what’s often described as the “Olympics of the art world”.

In 2019 La Biennale di Venezia – the 58th International Art Exhibition – was a reflection of the “interesting times” in which we live.

VENICE: ART MADE IN INTERESTING TIMES

It could be the list to end all lists.

Two million items long – the names of those things lost from the world, among them reptiles, mammals, invertebrates, islands, lakes, ocean habitats, national parks and world heritage sites - all things that have vanished from the world, some because of human activity.

Called Post Hoc, it's the work of New Zealand artist Dane Mitchell, New Zealand's representative at the prestigious biennial art exhibition in Venice.
